Meetings! Come get to know us!

Come and join us on Sunday afternoons over at Cafe Calypso in Moore Plaza and get to know us! We offer free CCAtheists T-shirts to anyone who would like to come to the meet-ups and chances are, someone will have brought cookies/cake! You will never be asked for money and will likely meet some very interesting people from Corpus and surrounding areas. We may occasionally try and come up with ideas for worthwhile things we could do to help the community or stand up for a worthwhile cause but, for the most part, our little meetings consists of simple, rational conversation and a few good laughs. Keep an eye out for the noisy group wearing the CCAtheists shirts and don't hesitate to walk right up and introduce yourself! Sometimes a little bit of community can mean a lot.

Feb. '08 Westboro Baptist Church invasion!

In Feb of '08, it was announced that the radical, homophobic Westboro Baptist Church was going to hold a protest at NASCC in response to a Navy helicopter crash a few weeks before. Tolerance and acceptance of the beliefs of others is key to getting along with your fellow man in the modern world but this little church group and its anti-american, anti-soldier, anti-sanity hate speech is just too much to leave unanswered. We, and hundreds of other patriots and soldiers were there to support our troops and the great country they serve and defend. In a classic example of irony, The Westboro Baptist Church was not.

From left to right: Michael (looking quite patriotic), John, Sappho, Alicia, and Michael again.

Alicia and Larry.

I think it was clear at the end of the day that the opinions expressed by the Westboro Baptist Church were going to receive nothing but strong opposition here in Corpus Christi. The soldiers at NASCC undoubtedly got the message that South-Texans honor their soldiers for the sacrifices they make and the peril they put themselves in each and every day to insure the freedom and liberty of all American citizens.

Austin Sept. '07 Separation of Church and State Rally

In September of '07, several of our group members pitched in and made the trip to Austin to participate in the Separation of Church and State Rally. It was an enjoyable trip and we were able to meet many of the free-thinkers from other parts of the state. Larry even brought his camera!

Of the faces visible, Michael is bottom right, Larry is top right, and John and Alicia are top-left.

The turnout for the rally was more than we could have hoped and we had a great time on the road-trip. Some of the videos taken at the rally can be seen here along with the speech given by our local group member Michael. Much thanks to all those that made it happen!
